Anyone who knows me knows that I am a cat person. Don't get me wrong, I like all furry animals (with a few exceptions), but give me a cat any day.
The last couple days I've been rethinking that. A few days ago my daughter realized that one of the kittens had worms. Yuck! That meant we had to treat them all. So I gave 12 doses of medicine to 10 cats (a couple of the cats in the house are so heavy they needed an extra 1/2 tablet). Let me say, giving cats pills is NOT easy.
We are also having to do a serious flea treatment of all the cats (they keep bringing them back from the pet store every time we take them to be adopted). For some that means meds but for the 6 little ones that means using a flea comb on each of them as often as I have the time.
And this morning I spent almost an hour dumping, scrubbing, and refilling litter boxes (had to get rid of the litter left from the de-worming pills). I hate cleaning my own bathroom so cleaning the bathroom of 10 cats is just way gross to me.
I realize that dogs can get worms and fleas and may need to go through some of these same things, but at least they don't have a litter box. So that is the one positive thing about cats.
If nothing else, I think it's safe to say, I am SO over fostering cats right now. Once these leave I will dance and rejoice and will NOT be suckered into doing it again anytime soon.

Huge Sigh of Relief
Today I took my daughter to get an ultrasound of her abdomen. Yes, my 5YO daughter got a sonogram. The last few months she's gotten multiple UTI's and her pediatrician decided that we needed to make sure that 1. she hadn't damaged anything or 2. that there wasn't some underlying problem that was causing them.
As we were sitting there waiting, I looked around at all the other people waiting for their particular procedure. It's safe to say she was the youngest there by at least 20 - 30 years. Then it hit me... my 5YO daughter could have a serious problem... something that could require surgery, or worse, could end with her having a shorter life that I would like for her to have.
So what did I do? I said a quick prayer that everything would be ok. And guess what? Not only did I feel peace immediately, but the radiologist and her pediatrician both said she has a clean bill of health. Praise God! Not that we know exactly why she's been getting the UTI's, but at this point I could care less about that. I'm just glad that my baby girl doesn't have a serious malady.
Oh, and did I mention she had a great time getting "tickled" by the ultrasound wand and her big brother loved watching how it all worked. All-in-all a good (yet I'm sure expensive) day.

Extended Stay
Right after we got back to Virginia, my daughter ended up with a recurrence of a non-contagious infection. Her pediatrician has decided that because of the recent frequency of this particular infection, that they would like to run some tests once she has completed her current round of antibiotics to figure out what could be causing it.
Considering the antibiotic will not be completed till next Saturday, we've decided to stay in Virginia a little longer than we'd originally planned. That way we can get the tests run now, rather than once we settle down somewhere else (very important since we want to make sure we prevent possible permanent damage).
A part of me is a bit bummed because there's a chance that some of the things we were hoping to be able to do on our way to Ohio may not happen now. The other part of me is happy that I will have more time to visit with friends and family. Oh, and maybe hubby and I will be able to fit in an extra date night too :-)
