Problem of My Own Creation

You know how yesterday I said I was really busy.  Well, today I realized that while I was so busy, I screwed something up.  I have a deal I'm working on right now that is VERY time sensitive.  As in, I had papers that were shipping to me for receipt today.   I have to sign them and send them out tonight for delivery tomorrow.

This morning when I tracked the package, it said it was undeliverable.  I did a little digging and I'd given the wrong zip code.  And guess what?  Rather than call the phone number listed on the express mail overnight package (um, that means urgent right?), the post office decided it was undeliverable and they were going to send it back to the sender.  ACK!

I tried calling the local post office multiple times and no one answered.  I called their toll free number and got stuck in their phone tree for 10 minutes.  Then I finally got in the customer service phone cue and decided to drive to the post office for the zip code it was mailed to, hoping that maybe it would still be there.

Moments before I got to the post office, a man picked up the phone and told me there was nothing he could do, and I should try to call the local post office.  Well, I'd tried that already and they never picked up, so I told him I was on my way there.  When I got to the post office, I told the gentleman at the counter what had happened.  He went into the back and about 3 minutes later came out front with my package.  Praise God!  He told me it was in a stack that was set to be picked up only 30 minutes after I got there.  Again, praise God!

So what did I learn?  I'm going to double and triple check addresses from now on.

His Eye Is On the Sparrow

Have you heard of the song "His Eye On the Sparrow"?  It talks about how God watches out for little sparrows.  If God takes care of sparrows, then how much more will He take care of His people?  Well, I've gotten to experience that care recently.  As my regular readers are aware, due to circumstances beyond our control I have had to look for work recently.

I decided to go into real estate because it gives me some flexibility with my schedule.  The down side is that it will take a while to start bringing in some money.  The good news is that I passed the state test last week and now I'm just waiting to finalize paperwork with my new employer so that I can start working.

Needless to say, the though of no income for a few more months is a scary prospect.  I know God will provide, but not knowing how is a bit disconcerting for the planner in me.  Well, a few days ago, I saw a post on Facebook for someone who was looking for a part-time bookkeeper who is familiar with an accounting program that I've been using for 8 years.  A program that I've been wanting to get away from for over a year (the irony was not lost on me).  I contacted them on Friday and found out on Sunday that they had picked me!  I will only be doing about 5 - 10 hours a week for them, but I have 6 months of work to help them catch up on first and they want it done in the next few weeks.  That means income in the very near future.  Yay!

You can't tell me the Lord doesn't look out for His children, cause He's certainly looking out for me and my family.

Dodged That Bullet

Today, I was able to witness, yet again, how the Lord protects me and my family (and our possessions).

The kids usually have Lego class on Thursdays, but due to a conflict for some of the teachers there is no class this week.  Class last week was cancelled at the last minute as well, so I decided to make a trip to that area so my kids could meet with a friend at a park.  The friend was available yesterday and today and for whatever reason, we decided on today.

On the way to meet our friends today, I stopped by the new house to drop off some stuff.  While there, I noticed the power was out.  Based on the rather soft ice cream in the freezer, it had been a few hours.  I called the electric company and found out it was only our house.  It took them about 4.5 hours to fix the problem; apparently a transformer that serves only our house had blown and it took a while to get the replacement installed.

As I was sitting at the park with our friends, I couldn't get over the fact that if we had gotten together with our friends yesterday, we would have gotten to the house on Friday afternoon to no power and rotten food.  It also made me thankful that hubby had not moved and plugged in the chest freezer he bought at a yard sale a few weeks ago because if he had, I probably would have had even more stuff in the freezer that could have gone bad.

God is great, all the time!  Even with the little things.
